Hello I have a longer Ray five 10 w laser trying to find out how to adjust height on framing..I have the width correct but the laser keeps going off the project on height. It will not frame what I need framed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Larry
I can't diagnose the problem in a YT comment Larry, sorry.
How do you measure the roller? From what to what?
The diameter of the roller.
Did you cherry plywood or solid wood?
I found the answer to my question. I should look at the comments before I ask questions 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Glad you found it!
Do you get to keep the machine when they send it to you for free?
Yes you do.
Hi mister Louisiana! Great video and explanation but I don’t think the 30w upgrade is compatible with the 10w kit. Only commenting this as I got a 30w upgrade kit in a deal.. but no machine. Sort of got the Second half of the kit in a deal.
You are correct, it's not compatible with the Mk1 10W.
Thank you very much for your wonderful videos. Warm greetings from the Czech Republic
Glad you like them, thanks!
I've just got the omtech polar 350 and it had a built in fan but it also comes with a big external fan. The inside fan is load so I know a lot of owners have removed the build on fan and just use the external, note to reduce noise though I believe
I have the Gweike Cloud 50 from the manufacturer of the Polar, and removing the fan made a huge difference for me.
I have been trying for 2 days to get a KERF setting for my new 40W laser - trying all the techniques on so many websites only to get totally frustrated because nothing changed. Your video made so much sense and within a few setting attempts, I was able to get a solid KERF for the 3 mm baltic birch I am using and a solid KERF for some Cast Acrylic I was trying out. Thank you so much for your videos - they are priceless!
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Glass pane points would work also Rich
Thanks!
How often do you back up your prefs files or does it do it automatically
It does an automatic backup every time you make changes.
Thank you
wallets. ? link doesn't work. not lightburn file
The link is to a ZIP file that has all the files in it Colleen.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy AHH THANK YOU
Thank you for this❤ I ordered mi e today but they dont have the purifier. Its sold out. Any other purifier that would be compatible for my machine?
If you read my pinned comment, I don't recommend these machines Keisha.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don't know where ur pinned post is. I just watched the video. IS something wrong with the machine?
It's the first comment under the video. I got an upgraded version with no issues. They changed the model after my review to one I hear lots of quality complaints on.
@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks for responding so quickly. I canceled through my bank. Guess I will stick to my cricut. Can't afford the other engraving machines n scared of buying a crappy machine.
I watched your short on 3D printing a custom exhaust port for the Roly. Can you pass on/sell the file? Thanks
I got the free file in the Roly Automation Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/rolyofficial
Is there any way to make a recess/pocket in the capital letter so that the offset of the spelled out name will fit into it (going for a stacked layers)? I am trying to figure out how to do this without burning the offset portion that isn't part of the capital letter. By the way I just got my laser and your videos have been a great help with learning how to use it, so thank you for that.
Too hard to answer in a UA-cam comment, sorry.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you for replying, I know it would be difficult. I figured it out. Thanks again for the reply, you are an excellent source for the newbies.
you have Fahrenheit gauges!!
Yes I do Mike! amzn.to/45sVwYX
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thought your came with it.
Another good advice 👍. Question, for every material thickness camera needs to be calibrated (Roly Laser)? why would the thickness matter if the alignment is referring to where the laser head is positioned?
I explained why in the video.
Always love your presentations; great job on this video👍👏! I see you've been loyal to the Roly products and added a new addition, the LaserMatic XW. What is your opinion, and which do you prefer to use the most, the LaserMatic or WeCreat? I did watch your WeCreat video that you demonstrated 6 months ago, but now with the new XW, what is your preference? Also, did they upgrade the camera system to fit the wide format, or is it still the same camera as in the LaserMatic MK2? The only things I wish Roly would change are the laser head installation and the addition of autofocus. It is so difficult to remove the bottom right screw. Roly should have designed the laser head similar to xTool’s S1, with only two screws on top of the laser head to mount it. And, I never liked the LaserMatic gadget to measure the distance between the laser head and the material. xTool’s S1 autofocus and pinpoint system is one of the best I have ever seen. So, I was hoping Roly made some modifications with the new XW instead of just making it a wide format. Also, I find Roly support to be just outstanding. There isn’t anything I have seen with other lasers compared to Roly’s. WeCreat has to be the worst I’ve dealt with, and it is a growing trend among paying users. I had two LaserMatic's that had to be sent back. However, I can say that throughout the issues with both machines, Roly was there on Zoom doing their best to resolve the problems. Thank you.
The XW is a Mk2, but wider and with larger stepper motors. Auto focus will be in the Mk3 along with some new features. There is no better diode laser on the market.
Im using a diode laser to remove the silvering on the back of mirrors. I find that in offset fill mode the path traced out is more visible than in fill mode.
I'll have to try that Colin.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Most noticeable if I print a square. The laser path is a square spiral and I think it overtburns when it slows down for turns?
I don't think Offset fill changes speed. At least I haven't seen that.
Thanks!
You bet!
Fabulous... Nice and steady as u go even i can keep up 😅 best ever..
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks this is brilliant! How do yo make the grid in the first place on the screen and on the machine please?
You have to mount the laser to a waste board so it doesn't move. Once you've done that, you can download a grid on my free forums, in the Members Only Download section: lahobbyguy.com/bb. Then you set it to output and burn the grid on the wood. Once that's done, you select everything on the work bed in Lightburn and put it on a tool path, layer T1 or T2. Then with it all selected, right click on it and select lock shapes. Here's a how to video: ua-cam.com/video/mFEqBNhe_7E/v-deo.html
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks very much for the advice mate, I’ll have a go at this at the weekend - I joined your website yesterday- very helpful! I was able to down load the cut and engrave library but for some reason lightburn couldn’t see the art links in the folder to load them, I’ll have another go later on after work - thank you 👍
You have to be on the Art Library to load them. There are two tabs, Library for settings, and Art Library for art files.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you very much I’ll give it a go 👍
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you, all sorted, the art tab wasn’t there but it worked fine once I clicked on it in the window tab like you said - cheers !!
Brilliant video tutorial! Many many thanks.
Awesome! 👍 Thanks for watching!
Is this how to make mandalas?
Not really, but some of the principals apply Cindy.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Do you know how to do that? If so, would you be interested in making a video about it? 🙏♥️. I don’t see one about it when I search.
It's on my list of videos Cindy. I'll do a basic tutorial in the near future, but a full scale Mandala takes a lot of concentration, time and effort. Typically about 8 to 10 hours for the experienced designer, which is why it's a low priority on my to-do list.
Well the new laser is not quite so ready for us newbies Fingered it out anyway!
Awesome!
Do you have a video of the 10w done this
You didn't watch the video? It was done on a 10W.
Will removing the factory fan void my warranty? I've only had my Omtech Polar for a month.
I don't know Carolyn, that would be a question to ask OMTech.
Nice looking but how do I get it to work?
The same as any other laser.
Thanks for this review, the thing is that when you say that it’s a good machine, it is a good machine. I just ordered one as an extra machine next to my 22W diode laser. Thanks again!
Glad I could help, it's been changed quite a bit since this video and I hear it's no longer a good machine.
Interesting video Rich. What's the advantages of those 20 cuts, over for example cutting 1inch square, measuring the actual square, to get the difference between the 1inch on the sotware and then actual piece. Then divide by 2 to get the kerf? Thanks
I don't actually use this, but if I did that's how I would do it. I usually just add my spot size to the project size and that works like a charm.
So to find your spot size, do you use the 1inch method or you do it differently
Personally, I just add the spot size of the laser to my project, but most folks don't have a microscope and crack ruler to measure the X & Y line width, which is why I made the video.
I always have multiple problems..I used trace then saw broken lines (trace no longer available) so clicked the node and it did not give me labels yours did nor could I do anything with it. ltburn coverted from pdf. simple drawing...didnt have the letter index bd etc
You only get the index if you hover over the node edit icon Colleen. Watch the video again. With the trace, you have to use the slider to adjust the amount.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you I will try again but it gave me a long list of the tools. The trace is greyed out after ?maybe making the .pdf a lightburn file. There are a million pieces to sequence , I keep studing to do 1 project!! Thank you for the unexpected answer🙂
How do I fix error 8? Please help me.
Error 8, _(cannot be used unless Grbl is IDLE.)_ can be a lot of things. Usually, it's a bad power supply and the control board is _"browning out"_ during a job. Try running a job at 10% power, if it works, it's a bad power supply. If not, it could be electrical interference from the wiring, like a refrigerator or compressor with a hard start on the same circuit, a bad ground, or a bad USB cable.
Thank you for this lesson. I really like all your lessons. I am new to laser work and am using a diode laser. I will be making a custom card for my little brothers (70) birthday with an old pic of us as kids.
Awesome Richard! 👍 Thanks for watching!
You showed that the plywood did not cut through totally with 1 pass. Could you have added a pass or is "1 pass" not changeable? There is a 40W WeCreate available. Would you recommend that instead of the 20W? It may be pre-order so not yet available for review. Also, what is the title and singer that you play in the background? Thanks, Gary Linn
From what I've seen from testing the 40W, it is a far better machine. Not even close to the LaserMATIC though.
I'm leaning towards the 20W due to the smaller focal spot for detailed engraving. Do you think I should go with the 30W. I'm planning mostly doing custom wood work engraving and will venture into mugs. I'm also considering this for cutting templates for some wood projects I have. I just don't have any experience on how much the difference in focal size makes. This will be my first laser. Love your channel and subscribed immediately when I saw the "guns out when the lasers out" tank :)
Both the 20 & 30W have a switch you can flip to go to 10W.
As always, thanks, Rich
My pleasure Craig!
Wow thank you teacher! I told you I was going to be you best follower lol
You're the best, thanks!
You seem to forget to mention your overhead such as electricity costs and such it takes 7 different electrical items to run my laser plus lighting and heat and cooling when needed
No I didn't Jim, the 8 slate coasters cost me $8, but as I said in the video, I put the cost at $15 to cover overhead.
Love your new theme songs!
Thanks so much!
has anyone put this head on a co2 laser?
Co2 lasers don't use Grbl controllers.
I feel frustrated not finding simple informations. I just bought Omtech polar 50w . But thank you again for your videos. Now I have to keep watching all of your videos😂
You'll be an expert in no time! I have the Gweike Cloud 50. OMTech buys the Polar from Gweike rebranded with the Polar name.
I have a lot of designs in my computer I use them for T-shirt etc how can I vectorize a design for free to use it for engraving. By the way I am becoming your teacher´s pet
Yes you can. Or you can just drag one into the workspace if it's in an image format, and then select it, right click and trace it.
Wow what a great tutorial. I am so new and this has been the best one I have seen. Thank you I started following you
Awesome, thank you! 👍
I cant get the Boolean subtract to work, I am making identical boxes, the weld works. Sometimes the Boolean tool will remove 1 tab then if i get it again, it removes the box itself and leaves the tabs.
It the order in which you select the items. Use the Boolean Assistant instead. Tools --> Boolean Assistant
I got mine today, it was delivered next door. FEDEX always delivers my stuff next door, but the wife's stuff comes to the house. Go figure. Had to use my dolly to get it, it's big and heavy.
Me too Karl! It was delivered to the house and I had to get it over to the shop.
Thanks so much for your videos regarding Roly Automation. Until 3 days ago I had never heard of them and was about to buy an XTOOL S1. Now I am going for the Lasermatic Mk 2 30 watt. I’m only a retired hobbyist but I’m sure it’s going to be 👍
Great decision! The S1 doesn't compare to the Mk2.
Thanks for the video! From the time you ordered, how long did it take for you to receive the whole laser?
Three weeks Tim, but I was in pre-order for batch one. The ship date is on the order page. Batch one, two and three are all sold out on the 30W. These are in high demand and always on back order, so there's never any "available today". As of right now, the XW 30W is unavailable until new modules are ready, and the XW 20W ships 6/13 to the 19th. I expect those will be sold out as well before long.
The video show the working area as 410x390, is that correct for the XW?
No, I also said I didn't want to go into the other office in the middle of the video to get the USB drive Jim. It's 610 x 390.
Liked the review, decided to go order one. They also make a 72X24 which is what I'm trying order. ISP is causing me issues. Also, the promo code didn't work, but I need the bench regardless.
MY bad, I had an extra space at the end of the code. removed the space and it went through.
Awesome, I was going to say, I ordered another one this morning and I had the same problem copying the code 🤪
*If this is your very first laser,* you would also have to install the CH341SER driver from the USB drive. Just double click the file and it will install.
For installing this driver can be used LaserGRBL, this program also have a beautiful and helpful stress test for machine health.🥂
Hello ,this MK2 mean that machine have makerbase motherboard?
Mk2 is the abbreviation for Mark 2, the 2nd series of the LaserMATIC.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuyGot it, thanks for reply, I'm interested of experience from people who work with Makerbase motherboard to learn is that be helpful on my Sculpfun work frame. Regards Alex
